Cabbage Upkari/ Simple bhaji

Cabbage upkari is a simple and easy to make recipe from easily available ingredients at home. A few drops of oil are just enough to crackle the mustard seeds and fry the curry leaves while preparing this recipe, Isn't it a health boosting one?. This cabbage upkari as it has no onion and garlic is specially made on the days of fasting. It is also prepared on festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and on occasions like any ' Pooja ' performed at homes or in temples as onion and garlic is forbidden to be offered to God in some regions.

So, let's start with the recipe and continue our chit- chat along with the tempering of the Upkari.

Ingredients:

1) Shredded cabbage - Small size

2) Curry leaves - Few

3) Green chilli (Cut into pieces) - 1 Chilli

4) Split black gram - 1 teaspoon

5) Turmeric - 2 pinch

6) Mustard - 1 teaspoon

7) Oil - Few drops

8)Salt - According to taste

Method:

1) Add oil to the pan, add mustard seeds , let them crackle.

2)Add curry leaves green chilli and fry it a bit, then add turmeric powder & fry for a second or two.

3)Add shredded cabbage, stir well and place lid on the pan.

Note: you can either add water to the upkari and cook or put some water on the lid and let the
upkari cook on the steam.

4) After the upkari is fully cooked add salt and fresh scrapped coconut, stir well off the flame and serve.

Note: this upakri goes well with dal and rice, chapati, roti or phulka.
